**Title: Minor injured during donation – serious concerns**
I’m posting this as a concerned parent after my 17-year-old donated at an event run by the American Red Cross.
During the donation, my child passed out and needed assistance. I was never contacted, even though they are a minor.
Since then, their arm has had significant bruising, swelling, ongoing pain, and even loss of strength. A medical professional has since raised concerns about possible nerve involvement related to how the needle was placed.
What’s most concerning is the lack of follow-up and aftercare. My child was not properly informed about what to watch for, and we’ve had to figure things out ourselves.
I understand that donations can sometimes cause reactions, but this situation feels like it was not handled appropriately—especially for a minor.
Sharing this so others are aware and to hopefully get more accountability around how situations like this are handled.
Claimed loss: Physical pain, loss of strength in the arm, difficulty with normal daily activities, and significant stress and anxieties due to possible nerve injury.
Desired outcome: A thorough review of the incident, clear communication, and steps to prevent this from happening again, along with coverage of all medical expenses and appropriate compensation for the injury and its impact on daily activities.
