Are You Considering Buying A Pet Online?

When it comes to Internet shopping, anything seems to go -- including buying a pet online. There are many breeders and pet dealers selling their animals in an online environment. Unfortunately in the Internet world, things aren't always what they seem. If you want to make sure you get a happy and healthy pet when shopping online, you need to take some tips into consideration...

Question Everything

The first and most important step to take when buying a pet online is to question everything and anything you read. While you may feel a bit paranoid doing so, it really is necessary if you want to protect yourself from the many scammers that lurk the Web.

You need to make sure you feel comfortable asking questions when buying a pet online. If a seller seems reluctant to answer your questions or seems to be making claims that are too good to be true, you may want to take your business elsewhere.

Get It In Writing

Before any money exchanges hands, get everything in writing. It can be something as simple as an email or a handwritten note faxed to you, but you need something written out on paper. It may be a little inconvenient, but it will provide you with a paper trail if something were to go wrong.

Knowing All Of The Fees

Whenever you're buying a pet online it's also critical to know all of the fees involved. Sure, there's the purchase price. But what about a transport fee? How about a fee for the container the animal is being transported in? Is the seller going to charge you "board" if they need to hold the pet for you for a few days? Get this all nailed out before sending any payment at all.

In the End

It's true that buying a pet online isn't always as simple as walking into your nearest pet shop or animal shelter and picking out what you want. It is, however, a great way to get access to a broader range of available pets. Just make sure you keep the above advice in mind whenever making an online pet purchase venture.

Please do not purchase a puppy online or puppy farms, its asking for trouble. I did it once and the poor thing had to be put to sleep as he had so many problems. I now have 3 rescue dogs from a shelter and they are beautiful. These shelters are full of lovely puppies who desperately need loving homes.
