If I could leave a zero-star rating, I would.

I inherited Truist when they bought my mortgage from my previous mortgage lender.

These guys are truly a horrible company.

On April 6th 2026, I received a notice informing me that there was apparently a gap of hazard insurance coverage between my cancellation of my old hazard insurance policy and my purchase of a new hazard insurance policy. The insurance gap occurred between the dates of March 3rd 2026 and March 9th 2026.
The notice stated that if I did not provide proof of hazard insurance covering the stated gap dates, Truist would charge me an estimated $60.00 for the hazard insurance they planned to purchase to cover the stated hazard insurance gap dates.
I interpreted the notice to indicate that Truist would purchase the hazard insurance necessary to cover the stated gap insurance dates and that at some point my payment would increase for a period of time until the cost of the policy was paid in full(approximately $60.00) .
I contacted my current hazard insurance carrier and attempted to purchase a hazard insurance “gap” policy covering the stated hazard insurance gap dates. They stated that the do not sell that type of insurance and had no idea who would.

On May 4th 2026, I received a notice informing me that apparently Truist has decided to attach an impound account to my current loan.
The notice also informs me that my monthly payment will be increasing by $266.19
I interpret this notice as a rather draconian and nefarious move by Truist to force me to have a impound account.
I am a senior citizen with health issues who lives on a fixed income. I can in no way afford a $266.19 increase in my mortgage payment.
I was/am perfectly willing to pay the $60.00 fee for the hazard insurance gap that occurred between March 3rd 2026 and March 9th 2026.

I never agreed to have an impound account and did not have one in place when Truist purchased my mortgage from my prior lender.

I sent a Real-estate Settlement Procedures Act(RESPA) complaint letter to Truists legal department more than a month ago. Their response has been no response.

Recommendation: Stay away from these guys
