Features to look for while buying cordless phones

Multitude of cordless phones with different frequency bands and several features are available in the market. But it is very important for you to know which one will suit you better. Your choice should be based on the environment where you have to use the cordless phone and its voice quality.

The frequency decides the range, quality of signal and interferences. A good cordless phone is not prone to interferences. Digital cordless phones support the 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz and 1.9 GHz frequency. Earlier 900 MHz frequency band cordless phones were used that offered a good range and was ideal for indoor use.

Today 2.4 GHz band is used that offer better voice quality and less interference but higher frequency signals do not propagate through walls while 900 MHz signals do. If you are using Wi-Fi router or Bluetooth devices in your home or office, then it is advisable to not buy a 2.4 GHz cordless phone. To overcome this problem you can opt for 5.8 GHz that offer better voice clarity than 2.4 GHz frequency cordless phones. The latest is the DECT 6.0, (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) that uses 1.9 GHz frequency band and is completely free from interference. It offers longer ranger and superior voice quality.

Next thing is to check on the battery life of cordless phones. Base unit battery backup feature is useful if you have power problem at home or office. Always buy a cordless phone that has feature appropriate for you and do not just go by brand name or cost.
