I went to Pick and Save at 1202 Green Bay Road, Racine, WI 53406 on May 22, 2026 to make a payment to Lending Club through the 'paynearme' cash app. It was approximately 1:10pm.
A manager was behind the counter and when I showed her the barcode sent to my phone and explained how the process worked she was reluctant to help. She could see right on the app that it stated to have a cashier scan the app at any of the "Kroger family of stores". She said she wasn't aware of being able to make a payment to Lending Club and wasn't going to scan the barcode despite my asking her to try. She said she would need to know more about Lending Club and still refused to assist me make a payment.
I don't know why she thought she needed more information about Lending Club after showing her the app which shouldn't matter in the least bit.
The instructions are clear and precise on the app which I explained to her a second time. All she had to do was scan the barcode, take the amount I wanted to pay in cash, give me any change and a receipt for proof of payment and Lending Club would be alerted electronically that a payment was made to my loan with them. I asked her a second time to try scanning the barcode and again she refused claiming she was leery about scanning the barcode.
Just because she never heard of Lending Club providing such a service should not make a difference. It's a legitimate transaction and never should have been questioned or challenged.
Very disappointed in the service not provided.
Desired outcome: Make sure this doesn't repeat and explain to the manager that because she hasn't heard of something legitimate, she should assist or at least try.
