Varsity Tutors review: Unexpected monthly charges

My college student asked for physics tutoring and on October 28th 2025, he sent me a link one for 4hr tutoring hours $276 and the other for 8hr tutoring hours $499. I clicked on the 8hr link and the price changed to $639. I paid for 8hr and he began lesson on Nov 4-Dec 13. After completion he never went back to the site. Unknown to me, my account was being charged 639/month. I noticed this on June 3rd, 2026, I called right away and the rep was empathetic and told me the extra charges will be refunded. On June 9th, 2026, I called for an update of the refund and was again told I will be refunded and the request will be expedited. On June 10th, I get a call letting me know I will not be getting a full refund, and I will get back hours which I refused. I am now currently filing a dispute with American Express over this company's unclear and unexpected subscription billing practices.
