junk removal
On recommendation from their sister company I called to get a quote today. From the start the rep was just giving me his standard run down not listening to my needs. Loosing my patience quickly interrupted ulrick (Phone rep) and directly said you are not listening to me!?! Again I expressed my needs once again he gave me the run down. At one point he asked me what do you want from me? I said for starters listen and second i'm using your sister company so how about you tell me the discount they promised me? He continued to talk I once again said you're not listening i'll have my garbage man pick it up and hung up. Had it ended there all would be fine! But it did not! He power dialed 20 times as I will show in my photo! On that last call I answered pissed! He didn't understand he was harassing me!?! What!?! For real clueless! He said he was calling me to help me!?! What!? Talked to a "manager lead" even though I asked for a supervisor she was no help! I dropped the "f" bomb not at her but out of frustration. Because she said " it's not common practice" wait what!?! Your employee just power dialed me and that's what you say! I will never know how this company is because I can not get past the initial phone call! If my staff member spoke to my customer like he did me... Power dialing a customer!?!?! I feel a phone call to the bbb is even in order! They feel this is ok? Here is the proof of the harassment! It's like his manager didn't believe me? I have better things to do with my life!
junk removal
5/27/2016
I contracted with the local 1-800-got-junk? Which was ctn-21074 owned by john. [protected]@1800gotjunk.com. I made a list of items to be picked up, including a king sized mattress and 2 couches. The workers looked at and took pictures to send to their boss who instructed them on how to work. Much to my dismay, I was told the truck was full and they could not take the items I specified (King mattress and one couch). For the price they quoted me for everything, I am left with these items for the entire amount I had for removal. They have not offered anything other than "one day" for the same fee they could come back and get the items. If they are good business people, they should take care to pack the truck carefully enough to fit all items (It was not) or tell me that they could not handle the job. Additionally they broke a hall ceiling light when they moved one couch.
Adequate resolution is to pick up the remaining items that were included in the estimate at a fraction of the fee. I highly discourage anyone from doing business with the east hartford business.

poor customer service
On the morning of july 25, 2015 I called 1800 got junk for an estimate on de
-cluttering the basement of my two bedroom townhome. Two company employees
Arrived at 4:45 p. M. And said they had an empty truck and were ready to start
The job. After perusing the basement they began to work at removing books
From a bookcase that was to be "donated".
I had actually only expected an estimate and instructions to prepare for the
De-cluttering but I decided that the opportunity to begin the task was "fortuitous".
Once the work was underway, the men stated more than once that my situation
Was "unusual" because the books and other items should have been removed and
Sorted according to what would be kept and what would be removed. This would
Have required a professional organizer: my physical strength is limited by my
Size and the effects if a double mastectomy. As the work progressed numerous calls were made to "the boss", ostensibly about the lack of preparatory organization.
One of the men repeatedly "encouraged" me to "donate" an antique dresser
Saying that I would be serving my health in so doing. Another repeatedly asked
If I intended to "shop around" for a better price on removal of my console
Piano. I was not in favor of paying $350 to have my piano turned into scrap,
Which is standard policy. I was even asked if I wanted to "donate "my file
Boxes containing legal documents.
We decided to remove a dresser from the upstairs room to complete a two
Thirds truck load. The dresser was removed, but two of the drawers were left
Behind. The men implored me to hire a professional organizer prior to future
De-cluttering work from got junk and provided me with two rolls of garbage
Bags to facilitate the task.
I paid the $460 fee for removal of a two thirds truck load and gave each man
A $25 bonus because they had worked for over three hours in this "unusual"
Situation.
On august 3, I could not find my laptop. I had been keeping it in the drawer
Of the desk where I work on my computer. I was put in contact with casey, a
Resolutions specialist. He introduced himself as a retired military policeman. (Intimidation?)
He said he would search the warehouse for my laptop and, when he couldn't
Find it he tried to convince me that it had been destroyed with the dresser
Which was not donatable.
i have a text from casey which might illuminate
The quality of my interaction with him.
When I talked with casey on monday he had a new line— the men told him that
I had had a professional organizer in the house before got junk came and
These people must have taken the computer. This is obviously a lie. I was not
Well organized at all on july27.
On august 12, I was contacted by "freddie", a more senior resolutions specialist
Than casey. He and casey had obviously communicated; I was once again being
Bullied into saying that the computer was left in the dresser, which had been
Destroyed because got junk had not removed it properly. It seems to me
That the goal here was intimidation not resolution.
I finally asked for and was given the address of the location in arlington
Heights from which workers are dispatched. When I asked for the name of the
Addressee, I was told to direct my communication to "fred!", the same man who was
Denigrating me. This was for me the final insult. I was being encouraged to
Waste my valuable and limited time writing a letter that would be ignored!
i have since learned that I should direct my letter to sam schick, the owner
Of the got junk franchise.
I am a female senior living alone, physically weakened by the effects of a double
Mastectomy. I hired got junk because I needed a company with a reputation
For honesty and reliability. I did not realize that the company now sells
Franchises and that each local operation can have different levels of
Competency. Or perhaps my physical condition and situation made me vulnerable to
Less than professional treatment.
I really do need my computer. I have already missed some online classes and
Will miss others next week. And I will be unable to start an online training
Program with income generating potential. Of course, there is the less tangible
Value of all I had stored in my computer. Neither of these resolutions people
Seemed to care.
It does not seem likely that I will be reunited with my computer or receive
Compensation for it. Got junk may indeed be a fine company but I do hope that
The standards and behavior of the employees of the franchise based in arlington
Heights can be made public. I also hope knowledge of my experience
Can protect another vulnerable person from the grief and heartache I sustained.
thank you.
charged almost twice phone estimate
I explained over the phone that I had about 1/2 of a large construction dumpster of junk at the curb. I was quoted $268. When the truck arrived, he said that it was about a truck load and the cost would be over $500. If we had not had to have it picked up that day, we would have told them no thanks. Don't do biz with this company.
did not show up for appointment
My family home had to be cleaned out in iowa because my father was moved to memory care living. We had called 1 800 got junk on 6/13/15 and set up an appointment for them to come to the house on 6/16/15 from 3-5 pm. On that day we had all other clean up done, the charities had picked up items and we were in an empty house waiting, and waiting and waiting. No call to cancel, no email nothing. We called the customer service number and were told they were having computer problems and that they could not bring up the system to find our appointment information. They told us they would contact the driver and have them call us. Another hour goes by, no call, no truck. We call again, we were told the same thing - computer down, driver would be contacted. We start waiting again - still no call and no truck. By now it had been 3 hours past the appointment time. We call again and they tell us they will schedule it for first thing in the morning - by the way at this point we are getting transferred to a call center in australia or new zealand. They did put us on hold and tried to page a manager on call and emailed managers but none responded. So we go to the hotel expecting that in the morning first thing a truck will be at the house. We get there early - nothing. We call and they tell us we are not on the schedule and they cannot get a truck out to us until thursday. We explain we are from out of state and we need to leave today, we cannot leave the junk as the home is sold and has to be cleaned out. It did not matter to them that they had screwed up the scheduling or that we really needed their help. At no point did any of the managers emailed or paged the night before make any attempt to contact us by phone or email. The only good thing is that we did not have to give our credit card to hold the appointment so they could not charge us.
We had to start calling and tracking down a local hauler. Luckily we found someone that came out in 20 minutes and hauled it all away for us within 2 hours. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Today I found in my email that they had again changed the appointment on us to friday. I recommend people go local and support a local business and forget this company.
got - ripped by got - junk
Got-ripped by got-junk. I booked online and followed all the steps to pricing by listing each piece of furniture I wanted picked up but finally hit a wall and saw they quote when they arrive. I talked with a fellow at got-junk who had my list in front of him to get a rough idea of the price so I would not waste their guy's time coming out and was told it looked like my order was a little over the $118 minimum, so I said no problem, send them out. Well, they arrived and were very polite and nice but also very quick to point out a price of nearly $500. I had 5 or 6 pieces of furniture! I asked them, "what is considered a minimum pick-up for $118?" their answer was "one of those apartment size refrigerators. What a joke, that would fit in my weekly trash can pick-up, and the guy on the phone surely saw I had more than one tiny refrigerator. I was stuck because two of the pieces I could not move by myself so I got ripped off $204 for two pieces of furniture that they will sell immediately. I took all the other furniture over to goodwill and they took it all off my truck with smiles and thanked me and gave me a receipt to use for my taxes. Salvation army will come out and pick up for free if you can plan it out a week ahead. I had to empty a storage unit and these guys knew they could rip me off and they did. I will never use this company again and warn everyone who reads to steer clear of them.
showed up late, when I complained they didn't show up at all.
I was told they would arrive between 11:30 and 1:30pm. They called and confirmed it would be 1:30pm. I left work to meet them. At 1:30pm they called to tell me they would not be there for 45minutes more. I returned to work and call customer service to complain because this had happen before. I received no satisfaction from customer service. At 2:45 pm they called to say they were on their way. I left work again, I waited until 3:10pm and no one showed up.
price
We hired 1-800-got-junk for the first time on april 26, 2013. The service was very poor and the price extremely high compared to other garbage removal services. The two young men who loaded our household remodeling/construction materials were courteous, but that's the only good thing about the appointment. First, our pickup was suppose to happen between 2:30 and 4:30. The actual arrival time was 5 p. M. Secondly, the guys loading the materials were not purposeful in stacking and placing everything in the truck. This company charges by how full the truck is once everything is loaded. In no time at all the truck was nearly full, when in reality the entire load should have only filled half of the truck. I fee we were way overcharged for the service (Total came to $529.00). I would never recommend gotjunk to anyone.
morality
While employed by 1800gotjunk I was working on a clean out of a farmhouse when my crew came upon a collection of coins that had a total worth of nearly $15, 000. When the franchise owners were made aware of the finding of the coins they told us NOT to inform the owners of the farmhouse. I believed morally that the coins should have gone to the owners of the house, but the couple that owns the franchise I worked for (based out of the quad cities) didn't see it that way. I would suggest consumers avoid any use of 1800gotjunk if the franchise is owned by anyone named Lorfeld.

rip off
I felt like I was totally ripped off. The "estimate your price" section is very misleading. The truck looks much larger than it actually is. I arranged it over the phone and could not leave work so my 23 year old daughter was there when they arrived. One of the items "junked" was a $3, 000 paint sprayer that was not supposed to be junked. My fault because I...

I find this post and others that complain about service industry pricing intriguing. Customers rarely consider the cost structure to operate a business, even though many of them are probably responsible for profit and loss at their own companies. Consider the costs that a plumber, or a junk removal company, might incur:
1. Vehicles are not cheap and the insurance on commercial vans and trucks are high.
2. Liability and work comp insurance is through the roof to the extent that many state legislatures are attempting to address the issue of skyrocketing premiums
3. Labor - a plumber may have only been on site for 30 minutes, or in this case a stated 10 minutes, but what about the sunk cost of travel time?
4. Supplies, or in this case, its probably dump costs. I don't know where this poster is from, but I looked at dump rates in our town and it is $160 per ton. One couch may not weigh so much, but blended in aver the course of filling a truck, it adds up. Copper prices for plumbers and electricians went through the roof last year.
The other point here is the value of time. I saw that budget will rent a truck for $29 a day plus $1 per mile. And $14.95 for insurance. It would take me an hour to go to the truck place, rent it and bring it home. Another two hours loading the couch, driving the 60 miles round trip to the dump and then paying for the dump, plus gas costs. I went to a dump once... What are the odds of getting a flat tire there? I don't drive box trucks regularly, less than once every 3 years is my guess, so what are the odds of me hitting something?
It seems like this person spent $154 and saved 3 hours of time, avoided the nasty experience of having to go to a dump and not having any risk of injury.

OVER PRICED. DOUBLED QOUTE. IT IS A ONE TIME COMPANY . WILL NOT CALL THEM FOR NEXT JOB OR REFER THEM.
In response to the top comment about the explanation of the cost. You claim that customers rarely consider all the cost involved to your company such as truck rental, insurance, labor, fees etc. See here is the thing, of course customers realize all those items need to be paid but that is why they hired your company in the first place. To not have to worry about the individual cost of this and that rather then to get one price quoted by a professional that includes everything and is the final price. The quote that your salesperson gives, if nothing changes from when the quote was given should be the amount paid. Not a penny more ever ! Hire a qualified person that doesn't need to remove their shoes and socks to count to 20 so that they know what it costs your company per pound and mile to haul something away and dispose of it. Have this person articulate in understandable language what the final price will be. No excuses. Again this is why a person hires your company. To get a all in one final price quoted and be done. The problem in this country has become ridiculous absurd with company quoting prices that don't resemble anything to the final bill. This is in part again do to the inexperienced employee hired to do the job. The trash and hauling business is no different then any other business. Its a simple process. Make sure the money coming in is more then the money going out. That's it ! The hard part of that simple thing is knowing how much it cost per unit of what your selling to the customer. I see this happening all the time where a franchised company goes belly up withing the first 12 months because the owner didn't do his homework only to realize after dumping all his money into this great idea his cost is 1.1 higher then what he was told from the mother company. Yet instead of passing those extra expenses on to the customer up front they add it on at the end and with that pissing of the customer. Again this shouldn't be the customers problem. What I am saying to you is this. Running a business is not easy and not everyone can or should do it. Be educated in the field you are operating in. Offer realistic quotes to a potential customer. Realize that not every quote you give will be awarded to your company. Learn from mistakes or under estimates made on one job and correct it on the very next job. Not on the job you just botched by under estimating it. If you continuously going over your estimate fire the estimator, don't keep adding it on to the customers and thinking that its their fault for not understanding the cost involved to move a couch from a porch 15 feet into a truck and haul it away. One negative comment and review will over shadow your $10, 000.00 web add or even TV commercial. Offer a honest estimate and don't be afraid to come in at the reasonable higher figure than your competition but offer a much better service and you'll find customers like myself don't necessarily go with the lowest bid. You do those basic things and the amount of word to mouth advertising you're company will receive far exceeds any paid for advertisement on some billboard. Never ever quote a job for less than it costs you to do with the mind set of raising the price after receiving the job. Do quote a job for less if you know it will be beneficial at some later date for your company. That is called managing, and again it isn't meant for everyone and it takes more then just having enough capital to buy a franchise of some sort and expect that franchise to turn a profit on its own. We have lost complete touch of reality in this country as to what it means to run a small private company. Items like customer service, accurate estimates and contracts are completely ignored and useless these days as they fail to serve their purpose. Why offer a quote if you're not going to honored it anyway. Why accept a quote if you know its not going to be honored anyway. In most other countries quotes are still a legal binding document that work.
They also require a business owner to be schooled and certified in the field they work in therefor you don't see the fly by night business as we see here at home. For those of you thinking that this also comes at a higher price you are absolutely correct. Perhaps you will pay slightly higher prices in those countries but that still is cheaper then paying for something that is not done right or having to pay extra at the end do to bad estimates.
Anyway, sorry for going of in other directions but my point remains. How dare you as a business owner trying to justify over charging a costumer to move a sofa by firing back and saying basically people are dumb and just don't understand. That is just unprofessional and hints to bad management.
Good day !
I have carefully read over a dozen of your statements and it is a shame to hear so many negative encounters. My name is Adam and I will be working with 1800 GJ. I need the money for bills. It does upset me that honesty, respect and punctuality are not executed properlly. I am professional and will ensure my customers will receive excellent service and represent the company in an upscale example. I cannot control the prices...yes there are other companies with various prices...yes there are different makes and models of vehicles...but you cannot force anyones decision on the company/car they choose...dont be greedy and let other companies earn profit...(companies that are well balanced in employee treatmentb customer price awareness) and so on.
Was scheduled between 9:00 and 11:00 am Tuesday Nov 24, 2015, ogt a call before 9:00 am to tell me they would be there after 11:00 because they had several pickups first, OK I was home for the day so told them OK. Showed up at 12:30pm, after 2 more calls to say they would be late. Truck was loaded and they could not get both pieces I had on the truck. Told them to take the refrigerator, WHICH WAS WORKING, we are remodeling our kitchen. Well, when they got done loading that refrigerator on the truck it was in broken pieces. No good to anyone. Doors broken off and shelves fell out and broken, yes they did clean up the mess. Called to schedule a pickup for the other piece, a sofa, and was told Friday between 9 and 11(their time available) Promised I would be the first pickup at 9:00 am Friday Nov 27. Call at 8:40am from Joseph saying they were scheduling me for 10:30 or 11:00, told they NO, I was to be first pickup. Told Joe to forget it and hung up. Joe called back to "explain" they had to dump out the truck before they could get to me. Told him to forget it. I do not believe they donate anything based on the way they handled the refrigerator they picked up from my home. They just THROW everything on the truck like the waste haulers who empty our dumpsters at my condo community. The refrigerator fell off the dolly they were using while trying to get it to the truck. They don't have correct equipment or tools to do the job. Don't know how I will get rid of this sofa but I sure won't call this company again, nor will I recommend 1800 got junk to anyone who asks.

These guys are crooks. And scammers the worst junk removal company ever
SECRETS EXPOSED. I have worked for the Greater Los Angeles El segundo franchise for two years I was terminated today for sending a text to my operation manager. There were many text messages but basically I told my Manager he needs to be a leader not a weight to our team. (if you are really interested I can provide all the actual text and you can be the judge) Im just gonna say I have been told on many occasions to fluff peoples loads to try and charge them as much as possible. also this franchise charges 15 dollars for a bankers box to be shredded and we dont have a shredder to my knowledge most the time documents get dropped at the public dump. You may have been a victim? My initials is RH if you find you were a victim maybe I will remember you and can be a witness if needed. Also they tell us to inform the public about how we donate this is true but here is the catch The owner of El Segundo got junk owns a non profit called Anewed and they donate to themselves and resale your items SHADY SHADY SHADY can someone say TAX WRITE OFF.. If anyone knows anything about wrongful termination and break violation laws I would love to hear from you. I have attached a few pictures of how they store chemicals improperly kinda scary the same owner just launched a hazardous waste business.
Called 1 800 Got Junk, gave me a quote for $130 to $320 maximum. ..when they got to our house the quote went to $1500. We said no way and the quote went to $1200. They wasted our time, we got someone else to do it for $350.
I just wanted to make a quick comment on the service called 'GotJunk'. I called for a price/availability on a couch that I needed 'gone', and the man was extremely rude. After he told me the price and when he would be available, I said "Okay, let me think about it and I'll get back to you." (now I understand 'sales' and 'trying to keep your customer on the phone'--but there are limits. This man had no limits.) His responses to my answer were summed up like this: "Well I won't be available later on at the time you needed, and it really 'seems to me' that you need this couch moved today!" --and-- "I see on our website that earlier someone was looking for the same time slot that you were looking for, so was that you?" --and-- (this one without even getting confirmation from me that I was indeed 'going to' use their service) : "What's your home address?" (Would he show up at my house and continue trying to sell me on the service?) The man was relentless is his pursuit to 'sell' this service to me, and he was well over the limits that a reasonable, good salesman would use and abide by. One last thing--the price: $119 to move a couch. I'm strapping it to my Subaru and taking it to the dump for pennies of what he was going to charge me. "America, I've learned a valuable lesson today, and that is THAT WE SHOULD DO MORE THINGS FOR OURSELVES." Be safe all :)
call them all then call the best . [protected] (DUMP)TERS DEMOLITION JUNK REMOVAL CLEAN-UP SERVICES
absurd prices!!!
Beware before you use this service. Unless you're going to fill up an entire truck with junk and it's in a spot where you just dont' want to carry it out of, then I wouldn't even consider this service. I had one (1) single couch that I wanted to get rid of. I was like ok i'll call these guys. It's convenient. The thing was on my front porch. It would take...

We were knew from another state and did not know anyone. We called got junk and they came over to give us a free estimate. After using there service twice and being charged the first time $300.00 and the second time $460.00 we found out this service was a free service in wpb, florida. These people should have been honest and said we can do this for you but there is a free service that can pick up bulk items in your area.
I hope everyone first checks this out before calling people that do not share knowledge with others. Call your city and county to find out first, the internet has so much knowledge out there. A refund would be appreciated from this company for taking peoples hard earned money. These people could have called and left our things at another location to get picked up from this free service and enjoyed our money. There is just not enough caring people to go around these days.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
They came To the pick up place put about the size of a refrigerator worth of junk in the truck and charged me $205.00. I thought they were joking! I will never use them again!
You guys are IDIOTS! Like Louie said, if you dont like there service/pricing, you can OBVIOUSLY just say NO and they wouldnt charge you a cent!
Ive used them plenty of times, as well Ive used shady "junk guys", who are not insured, dont show up when they say they will and are missing a leg. The service/experience is deffinetly 100% better with Got Junk. They are friendly on the phone, give you example prices so that you can decide wether to have them come out or not, and when they arive they are professional and give upfront rates. If anything does happen onsite or with your local franchise, all you need to do is call the head office and let them know, they obviously like to keep track of that kind of thing...
My friend works at the head office and trust me they have HIGH expectations. They are the Louis Vuitton of junk removal. The largest junk removal company in the world. They are in 3 countries already. Do you think that your stupid comments complaining about buyers remorce is going to slow them down or change anything?
Didnt think so.
I posted on another thread about this company and then saw your complaint. Your complaint is that this company should have told you not to use their service because your city does it for free?
So let's use your example in restaurants. You go to Morton's Steakhouse, enjoy a fine meal and pay the bill. You then complain to the manager that the waiter should have given you the menus for all restaurants within a 5-mile radius, including the $1 value meals at McDonalds and the free soup kitchen down the road. You feel that even though you are at Morton's, the service staff should do their best to tell you all the less expensive places to eat?
Is having a steak at Morton's the same experience as the steak at Denny's? Quality plays a huge factor, doesn't it?
How can a business expect to survive if their staff tell people all the less expensive places to buy products and services? I wonder how your employer would feel if you told prospective customers not to use the service or buy the products. I don't think you'd have a job for very long. And if you own your own company, I don't think you would be in business very long.
The kicker to your post is that you were so happy with their service that you used them twice.
