Mercari review: UPS shipping ( 1 comment)

I’ve had the same issue with Mercari that the previous reviewer had. I’ sold and shipped out a wedding dress for $119.00 sale price that weighed 5 pounds, and in which the prepaid shipping label covered up to 5 pounds, which was paid for by the buyer yet Mercari came back and said that the dress weighed 20 pounds and charged me over $80 as a shipping overage fee so I made zero on the sale. I messaged the buyer of the dress and asked her if she still had it in the box if she would do me a favor and weigh it and let me know what the weight came out on her end. She got back to me a couple days later and said she took it back to FedEx to weigh it and that it was 5 pounds. I tried calling Mercari and could never get through to them because they always have an automated voice saying that they’re experiencing a higher call volumes and to try back later. Here’s the kicker the following week I sold a second wedding dress which weighed the same as the previous and Mercari charged me a shipping overage fee of $8 dollars. How they went from $80 to $8 is both despicable and insulting. Bottom line os that both dresses weighed 5 pounds or less. I sent numerous inquiries through the app as they suggest through their help feature and only get a canned response of oh we’re sorry you didn’t weigh your item right yada yada yada and still don’t resolve my issue. The sad thing is these two instances weren’t the only times they stole/kept the money from my sale for BS shipping overage when in fact, I weigh every single item prior to shipping out. In my opinion,Mercari has become very greedy. I’ve been using Mercari as a selling platform for over 4 years and in the beginning, they were awesome. They were the best now they’re just greedy. That’s the way I see it. They recently.had a shipping promo where they were offering shipping up to 5 pounds for $4.99 and then once the promo was over, they automatically took it upon themselves to edit everybody’s listings up to $12.99 for shipping!’ The audacity! I’m highly certain that they are making money on the backend from the shipping carriers they use because what about all the shipments that are underweight Why doesn’t the buyer get a refund when their item is under weight of the prepaid shipping label they paid for?
